In the first quarter of Spanish 2, we were assigned to work as groups to research a Latin country. My group was given Venezuela. Incorporating our different skill sets, we were able to create a poster that covered Venezuelan culture, current events, geography, entertain, and traditions.
WHY I CHOSE TO INCLUDE THIS PROJECT IN MY PORTFOLIO
I decided to include this project in my student portfolio because my group was able to effectively use team working skills to productively complete this project in a timely matter. I was very proud of our end product and was able to take away a sense of appreciation from the project.
21ST CENTURY SKILL REPRESENTED IN THIS PROJECT
This project demonstrated global awareness skills because I had to gain an understanding of the Venezuelan lifestyles and unfair governing systems. This project helped me become aware of the suppressive dictatorship of Venezuela.
HOW THIS ASSIGNMENT DEMONSTRATES MY GROWTH
Previous to this assignment I did not know anything about the living conditions in Venezuela. I was not aware of their financial burdens due to their extreme suppression and corruption. I also think I was able to develop my team building skills through this project. My group was comprised of many leaders so I had to learn how to balance everyones' opinions.
AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT
During my presentation for this project I was very nervous and was constantly shaking, even though I had practiced my speech several times beforehand. I think in the future I should try to be more confident in my presenting skills and work to create an environment I am most comfortable in. I could have done this by writing more on my notecards because I did read many sections off of our poster board.
STRUGGLES AND SATISFACTORY POINTS
I found it difficult to research and understand the current circumstances of the Venezuelan economy and government system. In the end, I was proud of the colorful poster we produced and the informational content we presented to our class.
RELATION TO PAST CONTENT
This year in Spanish 2, we have been working on expanding our spanish vocabulary. In this project we needed to include properly spoken spanish words in our speech.
FUTURE APPLICATIONS
This project taught me to appreciate my life and keep an open mind when learning about different cultures and current events.
