For this assignment, we were instructed to revise two poems that we wrote throughout the semester andsubmit them to the college publication, Na Leo. Along with this, we needed to submit a recording of us reading one of our two submissions. This assignment demonstrated self-directional skills because I needed to designate a large period of time to come back to my writing. I find that I write best when I revisit my writing at different times. I am proud of this assignment because the professor showed it in class and said it was one of the best poems he has ever received. I also got an email back from Na Leo and they are going to be publishing my work. I improved upon my self-directional skills with this assignment because I had to be disciplined a create an independent writing schedule for myself. The most difficult part of completing this task for me was trying to use proper punctuation while keeping the lyrical tone of the poem. If I could have done anything differently, I would write more punctual drafts so that my revision process would become easier. This submission relates to what I learned in the past because in English 100 we were taught to “show not tell.” In this assignment, I needed to use descriptive words to bring upon a moment instead of using subjective language. As we transition into story writing from poetry, I will continue to “show and not tell” and write in a lyrical manner.
